Une poupée aux yeux d'émail 
Jouait au mieux de l'éventail
Auprès d'un petit coq en cuivre.
Tous deux chantaient à l'unison
D'une merveileuse façon,
Dansaient, caquetaient, semblaient vivre.
Ah!  Le petit coq, luisant et vif,
Avec un air rébarbatif,
Tournait par trois fois sur lui-même.
Par un rouage ingénieux,
La poupée, en roulant les yeux,
Soupirait et disait : Je t'aime!
